Everything WILL Be OK

On But Can't Get Off
On But Can’t Get Off

Stuck! We are all stuck and cannot get off.  The Life ferris wheel goes around and there is no real way off.  It goes up and then comes back around and down again.  So, how can things be ok?

Life gets better with contentment.  Where does contentment come from???

Contentment comes from gratitude, even gratitude for one thing, the only thing we can think of to be grateful for… like the next clean breath we take or McDonald’s french fries or the fact that zombies are really fictional characters.

Find something! Anything to birth gratitude.  It doesn’t matter if it oozes out, or bursts forth in song, even if we have to force it out, like a baby, express gratitude for something.  Then practice it aloud and then out loud.  Then after the gratitude blooms in our hearts we will declare ourselves to be content.  What next?

After contentment has conquered our hearts and claimed some of the land, so as to move in permanently…  THEN we must declare (once again aloud to someone else), “EVERYTHING WILL BE OK.”  Because though we are on the ferris wheel going up and down and around and around, we can do it with a heart of gratitude at the highest part of the down and the lowest part of the crest of the wheel of life.  Whether we are grateful for a can of peas in the cupboard or absolutely everything around us, gratitude is the seed to plant in life’s fertilizer that grows the very best CONTENTMENT.

Philippians 4:12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

  1. Love this. We were just talking at lunch today about how gratitude is probably the most foundational thing of all. Without it, there is no contentment, no happiness, no peace — whether we have an abundance of “stuff” or practically nothing to our names. And I like the Ferris wheel analogy too, the idea of being grateful in both high and low times, that discipline of the soul.
