Devotions Pages

Welcome to Mind Over Things That Matter.

WhereHopeComesFrom

In this portion of the website I want to collect some devotional thoughts. These ideas often include how we establish preferences and devote ourselves to those preferences. Follow along as I share how to think about who we are, how we establish who we are and how to relate to God and one another based in our devotion.

Comments are always welcome. Thank you for reading and especially thank you to those of you who follow the blog.

This is Hope…

RESURRECTION

Moist, with one drop of thy blood, my dry soule

Shall (though she now be in extreme degree

Too stony hard, and yet too fleshly) be

Freed by that drop, from being starved, hard, or foul,

And life, by this death abled, shall control

Death, whom thy death slew; nor shall to me

Fear of first or last death, bring misery,

If in thy little book my name thou enroll,

Flesh in that long sleep is not putrified,

But made that there, of which, and for which ’twas;

Nor can by other means be glorified.

May then sins sleep, and deaths soon from me pass,

That waked from both, I again risen may

Salute the last, and everlasting day.

John Donne

HOPE:

Did you ever hear the song by Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody? There is a line in the song that goes like this, “nothing really matters… nothing really matters to meeeee.”  Can you hear Freddie Mercury singing it? I can! so much of the time this line goes off in my head at the oddest times? What really matters to us? Why do these things matter to us? As an educator I am always thinking about motivation, inspiration, the spark that changes someones mind. Where does it come from? Where does courage come from in the person who has lived their lives in perpetual fear? How does a person decide to move when they have been frozen for so many years? I want my blog to be a format for wondering about things that bring sanity. Let’s think together about MATTERS and why some things do and other things just don’t.

  1. How beautiful this is! I think as one ages and gains experience in life, little things matter less. As we get older and begin to lose those we love, I ask myself, “Are they in a better place?” We have been given this life and all of God’s beautiful creation as a gift for our pleasure, to learn to love unconditionally,as a time for repentance, and to know Our Creator. When it is our time to go, what will we have to show for this time? Will He say, “Well done, oh good and faithful servant?”

      Dear Friend,
These words are so true. Life is filled with such conflict, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. I so agree that this is the place in our eternal lives that we can choose to focus upon Christ and live; Really LIVE. You always add so much!

  2. I’m loving the blog! I love the idea of talking about the things that matter! Keep up the great work!
