Thoughts About Life, Living Abundantly

Come unto MeEvery time I hear this phrase I think of Queen’s song, Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie Mercury belts the line out somewhere in the middle of the operatic song. Most correctly, the lyric says, “…nothing really matters. Nothing really matters to me.” I sang it over and over again as a young woman before I became a Christian. Though the lyrics were filled with despair they have always stuck with me. It actually became a mantra because I thought that if nothing mattered to me, then nothing could hurt me. Right?

 Wrong!

That is a lie. One of many that we fall prey to before we understand the power of controlling our thoughts. The most life changing question we can ask is, what matters to Jesus Christ?

We do!

Humanity is the most important thing to God. No other religion offers the LOVE offered in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Despair is lurking just around every corner, every circumstance

He went to the Cross to suffer death and hell, so He can enjoy us in Heaven. We are separated from our Creator, a holy God, because of our self-reliant sin. We want to run our own lives and our Creator pursued us through a sacrifice of reconciliation.

Isaiah 53:5 He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds,
crushed because of our sins;
he endured punishment that made us well;
because of his wounds we have been healed.

John 3:16-17  16 For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

I Corinthians 15: 1-20

12 Now if Christ is being preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is futile and your faith is empty. 15 Also, we are found to be false witnesses about God, because we have testified against God that he raised Christ from the dead, when in reality he did not raise him, if indeed the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins. 18 Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished. 19 For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone. 20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

*What else matters to Jesus Christ? Our happiness is not as important to Him as we would like for it to be. His Life lived out in those who follow Him matters much more greatly to our Savior than our circumstances do.

Our:

  • Death to selfishness
  • Obedience
  • Faith expressed in love

Matt. 16:24  Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

Luke 9:23  Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Mark 8:34  Then Jesus called the crowd, along with his disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

John 14:15 “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.

John 21: 15 Then when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these do?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus told him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Jesus said a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd my sheep.” 17 Jesus said a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that Jesus asked him a third time, “Do you love me?” and said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.”

Gal. 5:For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision carries any weight—the only thing that matters is faith working through love.

**His Way is best because He is The Truth that leads to Life. As our Designer Jesus knows what matters in our lives. He also knows what is best to matter to us.

So, let us begin this adventure of discovering how to more greatly control our thoughts in order to have Christ’s mind. Because His thoughts heal. His thoughts straighten the paths of our thoughts.

  1. What matters to me?

I can get really confused fast. Then fear has a space to jump in. The Lord wants me to focus on love and using any gifts I have been given to further that love. So for me that command is what matters most. Recently that was done through being in Godspell. I think He is pointing me to youth ministry now.

    Jn 13:34
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Sometimes fear trys to sideline that work. But Jesus gives me strength and courage to do ANYTHING He asks. He proves it over and over.

    Jos 1:9
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
    (ESV)

    Jn 14:1
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
    (ESV)

    Jn 14:27
27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
    (ESV)

That is where I am walking the path with my magnificent companion, Jesus.
